Naturopathic Hypoallergenic Diet & Food Plan

I am a tireless advocate for individualization in all things.

Including allergic conditions.

And the associated hypoallergenic dietary strategies.

My clinical experience has demonstrated that the best hypoallergenic diet for each unique individual is optimally tailored to that individual.

That said, however, the following hypoallergenic diet and food plan provides a basic dietary blueprint for the elimination of food allergies and sensitivities.

It is not appropriate for all individuals, particularly those with known allergies or sensitivities to the recommended foods.

However, in my clinical experience, it has reliably proved largely safe and effective in the identification and elimination of food allergies in the majority of individuals with a preexisting Standard North American Diet (SAD) diet.

Hypoallergenic Diet & Food Plan Indications

  • Autoimmune conditions
  • GI symptoms
  • Gas / bloating
  • Diarrhea / constipation
  • Nausea / vomiting
  • Heartburn
  • Mood disorders, particularly ADD/ADHD and autism
  • Headaches
  • Chronic fatigue / low energy
  • Dark circles or puffiness under the eyes
  • Fluid retention
  • Dermatitis
  • Sinus congestion
  • Abdominal discomfort / pain
  • Joint inflammation
  • Anxiety / depression
  • Headaches
  • Chronic ear infections
  • Asthma
  • Poor memory

Naturopathic Standard Elimination Diet

Sequentially remove most common allergens, including:

  • Wheat
    • Particularly indicated in those with sensitivity to gliadin and/or gluten
    • Note that some wheat-intolerant individuals may have to eliminate rye, oats, and other low-gluten members of the wheat (Poaceae) family.
  • Dairy
    • Particularly indicated in those with sensitivity to lactose and/or casein (common in people of African, Asian, and Australasian heritage)
  • Soy
  • Corn
  • Eggs
  • Nuts
  • Shellfish
  • Sugar
  • Banana
  • Citrus
  • Chocolate
  • Alcohol
  • Caffeine
  • Red Meat
  • Fish
  • Strawberries
  • Spinach
  • Artificial Additives
    • Sulfur-containing preservatives
      • Particularly prominent in dried fruits, wines, and other processed foods
    • Synthetic food colorings, especially tartrazine and artificial colouring
    • Monosodium glutamate (MSG)

To ensure the best opportunity to notice symptomatic improvement, appropriate trigger foods should be avoided for at least 4 days to 3 weeks.

Note that younger and/or higher-vital-force individuals will tend to notice more rapid response.

Elimination should then be continued until symptoms remit.

Challenge phase

Foods then are sequentially reintroduced until symptoms return:

  • Reintroduced food is eaten 1-3 times on first day of the challenge
  • Food is then withdrawn again for 3-4 days
  • Patient keeps record of any symptoms emerging over that period
  • Development of symptoms suggests food intolerance
  • Otherwise, food is likely tolerable for this individual

Hypoallergenic Diet & Food Plan

  • Eliminate salicylate and/or amine-containing foods, in addition to those listed above
  • Salicylates and amines are naturally-occurring constituents found in certain vegetables, herbs, spices, fruits, and chocolate

Hypoallergenic Foods

The following list contains foods with low salicylate/amine content and in compliance with the standard elimination diet above.

All foods should ideally be organic to minimize possibility of cross-contamination and pesticide residues.

Meat Lamb
Fruit Pears
Vegetables Bamboo Shoots
Beans
Cabbage
Carrots
Celery
Lentils (brown/red)
Lettuce, iceberg*
Peas (dried)
Pumpkin
Sprouts: sunflower, pea and bean sprouts (alfalfa / red clover can help with detoxification)

*If ragweed allergy present or suspect, eliminate iceberg lettuce, sesame seeds, and chamomile tea

Additionally, please note that sensitivity to any food can potentially exist, particularly after chronic ingestion.

Consequently, it may be prudent to eliminate a food even if it is present in the above list of hypoallergenic foods if that food has been ingested frequently or over a long period.

Hypoallergenic Diet Menu Ideas

The following daily menu is representative of the types of foods that would be included in the strict allergy avoidance diet detailed above:

Naturopathic Medicine & Homeopathy Testimonials

I'm the master of order, and I'm generally happy about this.

But when it got to the point of literally pulling out my hair ... well, I knew I needed help.

Andy's homeopathic treatment and mental-emotional exercises helped me change somehow.

I still have urges once in a while, but they're much weaker and more fleeting than they had been before.

The Bowen therapy sessions also helped my ankles and wrists.

This may even be the reason I have more energy and drive.

B.I., Victoria (Saanich), BC

My hands, fingers, elbows, and knees would just blow up every few weeks and get really red, swollen and painful.

Then I injured my achilles tendon, and ended up having bell's palsy somehow.

Dr. Somody's bowen therapy really helped my joints, and my attacks are more few and far-between now.

Even when they do come these days, they're much weaker.

Between the bowen, homeopathy, and neuroemotional feedback releases, my joints and achilles are feeling pretty great these days.

The Bell's palsy took a little longer to release, but once my joints got to the point of being mostly cured, things started moving in my jaw and face again.

Even my periods are more regular these days.

Catherine, West Vancouver (Lions Bay), BC

After Dr. Andy 's treatment, my  skin stopped itching almost immediately, and the dry, inflammed irritated areas were cured very quickly!

I'm no longer bothered at all by dry, itchy, inflammed eczema or psoriasis!

My anxiety, fever, sinusitis, and sleep all got and stayed healed since Andy's remedy.

Erika A., Richmond, BC

My daughter was horribly itchy before your homeopathic and neural-emotional treatments.

Anyway, now she's doing great.

The rashs on her thighs, genitals, and around her mouth are gone.

It doesn't seem to hurt her to pee now.

She also doesn't as irritable, even though she recently started teething.

O.W., Pitt Meadows, BC

The cancer had made me so frustrated and slowed down.

Time was my enemy, and I had to get better.

Andy's homeopathic remedy, biofeedback and neuroemotional treatments helped my mood and bowels almost immediately.

The cancer didn't go away overnight, but began to recede gradually.

Even during this time though I could tell I was getting better.

I had more energy and motivation than I had had in 20 years.

So when the doctors told me the cancer had gone into partial remission, I wasn't surprised.

Colin Wood, Delta (Ladner), BC

Distance had been created between myself and my wife - in our sex life and our marriage in general - when I came to see Dr. Somody. The naturopathic counselling and homeopathic remedy quickly helped me to overcome my ejaculatory control issues. and my marriage and sex life are doing good now.

Brian C., Port Coquitlam, BC

Multiple car accidents caused me to have less mobility and huge pain and stiffness in my neck, face and jaw.

I'd get super dizzy every couple of days, and have to go throw up.

My lymph nodes were always swollen too, and I got throat infections much more often.

I felt so tightly wound at work and in my marriage too.

The homeopathy, bowen therapy and neuroemotional releases all made my neck relax, and the pain started to go away too.

I've been pain-free for months, and have finally been able to drive without fear again.

Amanda R, Maple Ridge / Pitt Meadows, BC

The frozen shoulder is completely cured, and I don't have any more pain in my shoulder, hip, leg or other joints.
I no longer have a cough, and my anxiety is much better, thanks to Andy's naturopathic and homeopathic treatments

Judy R., North Vancouver (Braemar), B.C.

Physically, I wasn’t sick in the sense of major disease or sickness. But if I was to keep going the way I was. I would have been for sure soon!

Being troubled with stomach issues for sometime, and having emotion issues I wasn’t even aware of.

Before I met Dr. Andy Somody, my journey first started at a walk in clinic, where I was put through some blood and stool test after a quick intake.

My test came back and I was told I have a parasite. I was put on antibiotics and it completely wiped me out. It wasn’t a pleasant experiences at all!

After all that, I still had painfully stomach issues. I guess it wasn’t the parasite. That upset me a lot to think I poisoned my body for no reason with drugs. I was then told that I had IBS.

After doing some research about IBS I thought it was time to get a second opinion. Why do western doctors just treat the “what” and not want to figure out the “why” so it wont happen again? The reason I went to the walk in clinic in the first place was because my family doctor was a drug pusher who really didn’t listen to me and made me stupid for not wanting to put drugs into my system.

I chose then to see Dr. Andy Somody.

I called him up made an appointment for the next Saturday.

I was very pleased that I didn’t need to take anymore time off work and that he was available on Saturday.

My first appointment reassured me that this was the right choice for me.

Andy listened to everything I said.

He asked me question, that I never I been asked before.

He provoked thoughts in me that I never even new existed in me.

My cure was a simple but profound one.

I was stressed out from work and I was going down the wrong path in life. The balance in my life was way off.

I am pleased to say that the pieces of my life are coming together and I’ve never been happier!

(which I never thought could happen, because I thought I was already happy.)

The pieces were always there in front of me - I just didn’t know what to do with them.

I owe Andy for helping me figuring it out, by opening my mind and spirit.

By listening and showing me love and compassion.

Andy has a true calling for naturopathic medicine.

Which has inspired me do what I love.

I am free of all pains and have learnt the ability to listen to my body for what needs it has at the time.

Thank you, Dr. Andy!

Jennie Robinson, Richmond, BC

His speech impediment and drooling are not so much now since the homeopathy and the biofeedback.

He seems better able to concentrate - his teachers have even noticed a difference, and he's doing better at school.
