Homeopathic Dosing & Posology:
5) What is the desired effect? To get rid of (for instance) a headache, or to have one come on, or as a preventative?
Any of these is a possibility, and any of these could ultimately be curative.
You see, even triggering a headache to come on would actually be the first step of getting rid of that headache, as it would represent your subconscious's successful isolation and repair of the underlying reason for the headache.
Consequently, this could be seen as ultimately the best preventative of all!
Mind you, triggering a headache, which could be seen as a specific type of aggravation (see my more detailed discussion about these in point 1 above for details), isn't a necessary or even somewhat common occurrence in my experience - most patients just start getting better, which is always nice :)
As well, I should emphasize that any of the above only applies to homeopathic single remedies which have been individually chosen for you by a skilled practitioner.
In my humble opinion, combination homeopathic remedies are - with a few well-crafted exceptions - attempts to turn homeopathy into conventional medicine, allowing practitioners and lay people alike to prescribe symptomatically.
For example, the leading Flu remedy consists of every homeopathic thrown together which has something remotely to do with flu, while the Colic remedy likewise consists of every remedy which has something to do with colic.
This is, unfortunately, the type of homeopathic that this most commonly available to the general public, and with which the person with no previous exposure to homeopathy is most likely to be familiar.
However, because the homeopathic provides information (rather than the raw material that herbs or food provide), I have noticed that using too many messages will often confuse the body, causing destructive interference and ultimately creating less beneficial effect (if any at all) than any of the individual remedies.
That said, I have noticed that there are a very few select people for whom combinations of remedies are preferable to any single remedy - however, in these instances, this combination is also individually selected after careful evaluation and testing, rather than being applied on the basis of a symptomatic disease label.
Homeopathic single remedies, in my experience, have much greater potential to produce truly curative results, but they must in turn be very finely individualized by a skilled practitioner.
I have over 1,000 single remedies in my ever-expanding medicine kit, and no one remedy is more or less likely a prescription in a given case than any other.
As my level of specificity has increased in this manner, the results which treatment has been able to produce have become more and more consistently gratifying.
Note I have, over the course of my own homeopathic treatment by a fellow homeopath (for whom I prescribe in turn), I have realized that I cannot act as my own 'skilled practitioner' and self-prescribe!
I reflected upon this fact after receiving a particularly good remedy which I knew and could recognize easily on others, but yet never recognized myself to be!
Why was this, I mused?
It suddenly hit me that it was almost impossible to not have this be the case!
After all, the remedy is needed in the first place because we have a "blind spot" - something which we are completely oblivious to on a conscious or subconscious level, despite it being in plain sight.
Since we cannot see our own blind spot, we cannot prescribe for ourselves.
This is why true healing (in my humble opinion) is better achieved by our collective consciousness than by solitary meditation and self reflection.
We can spend a lifetime going around in circles inside our own heads, while the answer may be staring us in the face the whole time.
I cannot count the number of times in my own life in which using another person as a sounding board has greatly enhanced my own clarity and insight into a situation that I could not have possibly tackled alone.
